Letters to the Editor
Hi Ron,
I wanted to comment on your music article where you acknowledged the contributions of those artists no longer with us. Dan Hartman was an incredible musician, composer and singer. He earned great fame as an original member of the Edgar Winter Group. I like to think of them as a dance rock band. He had co written the smash hit song Frankenstein. His roots were in rock and roll but he set out to expand into the disco sound. This took him on a magical solo career. He again met great success with hit songs like Instant Replay and Relight My fire. Although his career was cut short, he had achieved so much. He had a great love for music and how it moved people.
Dear Ron, thank you for remembering my cousin.
Toni Hartman

Hi Ron
I would like to respond to Monique Bryher email regarding hustle/dance etiquettes..I have been dancing since the early 80s , I love the hustle, and salsa, and any type of partnership dancing, I've gotten involved more so for the past 8yrs, and also have competed in a few competitions, and its rewarding to my self-esteem..However I also noticed that if you don't dance up to par..the old time dancers wont ask you to dance. There is too many clicks out there that dance upon themselves, and dont ask a new comer to dance. To a new comer that is discouraging, and for a woman thats more discouraging , thats why they leave that type of dance. Think about this The hustle has one foot in , and one foot out the door..it up to the man to ask a woman (mostly) to dance regardless on the level of her dancing , to encourage, and keep it alive. There is always someone better then you , and someone worse then you, that is where etiquette plays a role in the dance world. For me its a big turn off to see that, but I keep going because I love it , and wont stop regardless, BUT
for the new comer its very easy to say the hell with this. Im sure that there are people out there that can relate. KEEP THE HUSTLE ALIVE..ask a newcomer not only that you will make that person feel good..it will be good for you too.
Rosetta

How are you Ron,
I had to write you to express how much I enjoy your Dancetalk e mail. I am a product of the seventies and love to read about the hustle dancers from my era. I live in Hilton Head and have stuggled to grow an interest in the hustle dance,,,,, but will not give up the fight....... It is hard to forget that just a few years back we jammed the discoteques with wall to wall people. Back then I danced in many contests and through winning prize money, it helped pay for my college tuition. My biggest claim to fame was winning a huge contest that ultimately flew us out to Califorina to appear in the Village People movie "Can't Stop The Music". It was a great experience and I still have autograph pictues from The Village People. I can be seen in the movie at the end when they had the balloon drop. I had long shoulder length blonde hair....... IT was one of the highlights of my dancing days.......................

Broadway musicals are thriving again. Utilizing the music from pop singers and rockers like ABBA, Elton John, Billy Joel...their music has helped create a new direction for Broadway. Look for new musicals featuring the music of Frankie Vallie & the Four Seasons (Jersey Boys), then in December the sounds of the Beach Boys will be featured in a new musical, Yoko Ono has approved a musical for next summer using her late husband John Lennon's material, a traveling show featuring the music of the late Johnny Cash's life and then next spring the King hits Broadway... as in Elvis.
SHALL WE DANCE, is being shown Sunday evening October 24th at Rogers Dancesport at approximately 7pm. The movie features Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez, Susan Sarandon, Gary McDonald & Holly from Rogers. Private students are FREE, group class students - $5, Non-Students $10. The cutoff date for reservations is Thursday, October 21st. (973) 276-1170 www.dancesportcenter.com

The Anita Secchia - Fund Raiser
The fund raiser for Anita was a great success. DJ Johnny V along with Doreen worked their hearts out to show their love and support. Our dear friend Anita Secchia has been stricken with colon and liver cancer. Her friends have come to her aid and held a wonderful night of dancing at the IBBG club in NY. Many people baked goodies while others were kind enough to donate gifts or their services for the raffle. The house was packed and moved by the dance performance of Donna DeSimone and James. Stephanie sang a wonderful song, courtesy of BU records, Barry performed a hip hop routine while DJs Johnny V, Nino Torre and Chris manned the music booth. Many professional dancers, friends and dignitaries were on hand to show their support including, Bobby O, Diane Nardone, Bobbi Petri, Lori Brizzi, Robin Amante, Howard, Rhythm Force (Jerry Hobbs, Bryan Attale), Mayor Tony Troiano, Charlie "Mr Zacharys" and Mimi....
Anita made a short speech. It was a night to remember. If you were unable to attend you can still send a donation to the address below.
