Looking for fresh new music! You must check out the new release by Gwen
Stefani entitled Sweet Escape. It has
something for everyone.....hip hop, ballads, dance tunes for WCS
& hustle. The album has various tempos and is sure to earn her
numerous Grammy nominations. My personal favorites are Wonderful Life
and U Started it.
Remember the motion picture Xanadu staring Olivia
Newton-John. Get ready for a spring debut on Broadway. The motion
picture has been transformed into a musical.

Boot Camp
Scores of motivated Hustle dancers,
from all over the tri-state area will be drawn to a centrally located,
but relatively unknown location in Queens, NY on Dec. 26th.
Many non-Hustle dancers will be joining, as well. What is
drawing these interested parties to "Camp Charisma" in Kew Gardens
Hills is the chance to participate in the third Hustle Bootcamp
presented by Bobbi Petri @ Dance upon a time....
Bobbi, her staff, and other invited instructors have come up with a
great concept for Hustle dancers of ALL levels. Almost 100
people attended the last Bootcamp in August, based on word-of-mouth and
the unqualified success of the first, back in April.
For 5+ hours, starting at 19:00 hrs (that's 7pm for you non-military
types), there will be non-stop Hustle, including general dancing,
workshops, and possibly some performances. All the staff,
dressed as Drill Instructors in camouflage and khaki, with whistles and
bullhorns, will be putting their dog-tagged recruits through their
paces. (Military dress is the fashion
statement of the evening!) The recruits will be issued their
dogtags and canteens at the enlistment desk prior to the 1st workshop,
and given the chance to do some warmup dancing until 19:30
hrs. At 7:30, the troops will be sent to their respective
Drill Instructors.
The green, and still wet-behind the ears, newcomers will be shipped off
to Basic Training, where they will begin the 1st of 2 back-to-back
workshops. The entire evening will consist of a series of 6
completely different workshops, designed to progress the
newcomer/beginner through the fundamental Hustle grammar and
vocabulary. At least 2 workshops (most likely 9:30pm
& 10:30pm) will be simple amalgamations (sentences), using all
the vocabulary that they've just learned. Focused Beginners
can usually start dancing that same evening. The last
workshop for beginners will be the traveling 1-1/2 left turn for the
ladies, which will spice up the two previous amalgamations.
Even Intermediate level dancers (leaders and followers) having trouble
with this turn should take advantage of this workshop as well (which
will also be taught during one of the early "Specialized Skills"
workshops). By the end of the evening, those previously green
recruits should be able to get out on the floor and survive the Hustle
battleground. Those seasoned veterans, who need some new and improved
"Battlefield Maneuvers" will be platooned off with the Intermediate
Level D.I. who will be teaching one of the 6 completely different
Intermediate level workshops that will happen at 7:30, 8:00, 9:00,
9:30, 10:30 & 11:00. There are three 1/2-hour
practice sessions, the 1st one which begins the evening as the troops
enlist, one between each of the 3 "Workshop Sessions" AND a fourth
dance-till-you-drop session of general dancing from 11:30 on. The "Top
Guns" who have joined the Bootcamp for "Special Forces" training, will
be entrenched with their Advanced Level Commando Instructor, to learn
all the advanced styling, footwork, and syncopation's we can muster
into 6 completely different Advanced workshops. Most of these
sessions will be taught by the Supreme Allied Commander, Bobbi Petri,
although some highly-decorated "Battlefield Specialists" are invited to
come and share their particular skills, as was done in the two previous
Bootcamps.
For those troops who are not beginners, but need more "Tactical
Training" than pattern, there's a series of 6 completely different
"Specialized Hustle Skills" workshops, which are designed to perfect
leading and following skills, turning techniques, essential footwork
variations beyond the fundamentals, and the beginnings of understanding
rhythm changes.
Bobbi Petri is one of the most well-respected Hustle Instructors in the
tri-state area. Her reputation among the teaching and dancing
elite, in ALL forms of partnership dance, is without equal.
She is surprisingly not the most well-known name among the uninformed,
since her focus has never been on competing or performing for personal
championships or credentials; her students, however, were always
top-level competitors and she has trained her fair share of
champions. But, her love of Hustle and joy of teaching have
kept her at the forefront of the Hustle revolution and
evolution. For over 30 years, Bobbi has trained many of the
best Hustle dancers in the community. Among the multitude of
her former students and trainees, you might actually find that you're
taking or have taken lessons from one of them, taken lessons in their
dance studios, or read about them in the Hustle Hall-of-Fame.
Brian Gagne', Bill Curtis, and Doug Hagwood, round out her Dance
upon a time.... staff. There is almost 30 years
teaching experience, and an additional 30+ years of dancing experience
between them. Her sister Lori Brizzi will most likely
participate as a guest instructor, and pre-registration will help
determine if more instructors need to be added to keep workshop sizes
manageable. As always, a surprise guest or 2 might drop in to
add their own particular flavor to the evening.
Pay for 1 session (2 hours including one 1/2-hr practice before, 2
back-to-back 1/2-hr workshops, and a 1/2-hr practice afterwards) for
$25. Two sessions are $40, and the full-evening pass is only
$50. Readers of DanceTalk will be given an opportunity to
SAVE $10 OFF A FULL-EVENING pass if they register on-line at
myDanceEvent.com using the discount code: DBC0DT by Thursday Dec.
21st. That's only $40 for the entire evening!!! All
students who register in advance for at least 2 sessions OR the full
evening will be guaranteed to get pizza during the third practice
session (10pm - 10:30pm). (To ensure that participants who
registered IN ADVANCE receive their pizza ration, walk-ins will NOT be
served until ALL pre-paid participants have been served, and then, only
on a first-come, first-served basis until the supplies run
out.) ALL participants will be given a 16oz. Poland Spring
"canteen" at the start of the evening (Full Evening participants will
get a 24oz. canteen -- others can "upgrade" to the larger bottle for
only $1). There will be additional water, soda, juice, and
Gatorade for sale, as well as a fully stocked cash bar, with wine and
just about every spirit you might want. Please do NOT bring
outside beverages.
Email DHDanceTeacher@aol.com for additional information. Type
"I Need Bootcamp Info" in the subject line. In addition, Bobbi,
manager/instructor/DJ Doug, and staff host a weekly dance party/social,
the Mad, Hot Ballroom Party EVERY Monday
evening. It starts at 7pm with a Ballroom mix, and around
7:30, guests are invited to join in a complimentary 1/2-hr Ballroom
dance lesson (Beginners in one room/Intermediates and above in
another). The lights go back down to continue the general
dancing until around 9pm, when the dancers are offered a 2nd
complimentary "Club Dance" lesson (two levels, as well).
After the 2nd lesson, the lights go down, the PRICE OF ADMISSION goes
down, and the dancers "get down" to DJ Doug's own

Holiday Spectacular - Review
It was another incredible night of dancing. The
Stars came out, the dancing type, for a wonderful night of holiday
cheer. Donna Boyle and Ron Bess presented their 14th Annual Holiday
celebration. Dances flew in from FL, MA, VA, DL, MD, NY and all
surrounding areas of Pa and NJ for this special night. DJ Mark manned
the DJ booth for a high energy night featuring the music of the Salsoul
Orchestra and Vince Montana Jr. as Vince, and his family, attended the
gala. The night kicked off with a complimentary hustle dance lesson
conducted by Ron and Donna. The highlights of the evening included a
"Anything Goes Dance Contest." Nine couples competed for the
prestigious title of "King and Queen" of Hustle. Our judges were: Karen
Lupo,
Andre Phelps, Artie Phillips, Silvana Gallagher and Mark James. The
couples put their skills to the test as they danced before a full
house. Our first place winners (and crowned the King and Queen Of
Hustle) were Stephanie Risser and Steve Salerno. They went home with
matching crowns and cash prizes. Second place went to Steven
Mitchell and Caren Casper and third place was Jeff and Jenn Gessner.
Special thanks to Evelyn from Dance Shoe Boutique offering their newest
and greatest selection in today's dance shoes and sneakers.

Many of you may know the plight of the Stardust, one of the premier
ballrooms has been subject to a court order of eminent domain. It's not
clear when, but the building will fall to the demolition ball in the
near future. We hope to host another party at this huge ballroom soon
including a launch for the 9th annual Discoamerica taking place this
summer July 5,6,7, 8 in Atlantic City, NJ.
On behalf of Donna Boyle and myself - We wish everyone a happy
Hanukkah, Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New year.
Thank you for making this an overwhelming success and helping to keep
this tradition alive.

Letters To The Editor
Hi Ron,
Disco lives! It's not just history! I would like to thank all
who attended ...The party was off the hook! There must have been close
to 300 people there. I believe it was one of the best parties I have
hosted or attended in the last 5 1/2 years. Many people
commented to me that the energy and vibe in the dance room was as if we
went "back in the days". Nelson "Paradise" Roman played fabulous music
from beginning to end. At the end of the party at 2am the room was
still packed so we just kept on going! The producer of a program on the
History Channel attended my class and party at the 92nd St. Y last
month and asked to come out and tape this month's party. It is for a
program called "Our Generation" and the focus is on disco from
1973-1978. The host and camera were on for my 8pm class, they were
taping people dancing during the party and pulling people out for
interviews. Kudos to Bobbi Petri and her Hustle
Performance Class who did their number for us. They did a great job and
in just a short period of time and their performance was very
well received. I think people like to see students out there
performing as well as the Pros. The producer had seen me dancing with
Ricky Quintana the month before and asked if we would dance at the
party. Some of the guys at the party surprised me by cutting
in and danced with me and we had a lot of fun (well at least I did). I
chose to dance to the song by First Choice "Let No Man Put
Asunder" where the singer sings the lyric "It's Not Over" and that
was our theme for the night. The show will be aired Jan 16 at noon and
at 6pm and 18th at 8:30pm and most likely be repeated the following
week. I am excited because my assumption is that there are a lot of
people that do not realize that we are still dancing to this great
music and that younger people are learning the hustle and putting their
own style and bringing new music to it as well. It will be terrific
exposure for our community. I will send you more details about the show
soon.
IT'S NOT OVER!
Thanks,
Lori Brizzi
To Ron and Donna
I wanted to thank you for the great party on Saturcday night. Please
post this letter so others can read too.
It was so great to see so many friends last night. I had not seen Greg
from Washting DC in five years. The other Bob, Karen, Lisa, Stevie the
Gypsy and Donn'a old dance partner Tony. Just seeing those good old
friends made my weekend. I think the party should be renamed the Hsutle
dancers Reunion. Time has stood still. Lisa Chow looks
unbelievable.......I already decided to plan what I will wear for next
years party - L.O.L..
Thanks for making this happen. Happy holidays and New Years,
Bob

Hello Ron,
The Grand Opening of the Pavilion was packed with just under 500 people
in attendance! Our new air-conditioning system is run by computer and
the programmer didn't extend the cooling time past 8:30 PM so it got a
bit warm! This has been corrected, so we hope all of our dancers will
be able to keep their cool and dance all night! We have made several
changes and are fine-tuning the format for the evening. Hope
everyone will stop in and check us out..... the Pavilion is located at
301 Yamato Road, Boca Raton, FL on the NE corner of Yamato Road and
Dixie Highway in the Stonegate Bank Building.
Keep these wonderful newsletters coming. I have passed the info on to
several new friends and have received many thanks for turning them on
to you. Stop in and play when you visit the Sunshine state.

Holiday Spectacular
Back in the mid 70s, when disco was brand spanking new, folks
began to learn the hustle. The music was energizing, the atmosphere was
fun and the dancing was exciting. Over the last 14 years Donna and Ron
have presented their annual dance party. It gave those dancers, from
back in the day, the chance to come out and see old friends, hear the
music, make new acquaintances and take a trip down memory lane. For
many, their careers, families, poor health etc...have taken them away
from the dance scene. For some, this is the only time they come out to
dance....virtually a dance reunion.
We welcome, we encourage dancers of old, new, folks wanting to learn,
to join us for the biggest one night dance event this winter. The
Holiday Spectacular gives everyone the chance to enjoy the holidays
under a mirror ball.
Save your energy for this Saturday, Dec. 16th. Donna and Ron
return to the Stardust Ballroom, for what maybe the last big dance
event at this wonderful location. Sad to say but the Stardust will be
closing its doors forever.
Come join us for a wonderful night of dancing. This year we will host
the "Anything Goes Dance Contest". This competition is open to all
levels, amateur, ProAm and professionals. We will also have a special
wheel chair performance - Sandra Fortuna's presents members of the
American DanceWheels Foundation. Come see this incredible
exhibition. DJ Mark will be spinning non stop music all night
long. There will be a complimentary dance lesson , "street hustle" with
Ron and Donna at 7:30PM. There will be finger food, cash nonalcoholic
bar, lots of door prizes and other surprises.
We will crown the King and Queen of Hustle.
BYOB, free parking, dancing from 8PM till 1AM. The Stardust is easy to
get to.
(See the address below).
Come spend a night with your friends and celebrate the holidays
together, share a dance (the dance floor is huge) and dress your best.
Only $20 per person.
Last year we had over 250 friends - including some of the best hustle
dancers on the planet. We hope you can join us for our 14th Annual
