The International Hustle & Salsa Competition
The 12th Annual International Hustle & Salsa Competition takes place this year at one of the most desirable vacation destinations in the world: Orlando, Florida. The IHSC 2011 promises to be even bigger and better than ever, with its new location - The Orlando Marriott World Center Resort. World dance champions, Billy Fajardo & Katie Marlow invite you to attend the most exciting, invigorating event of its kind. The perfect match: Hustle, Salsa and You.
The most unique partner dance event in the world, the IHSC is a non-stop multi dance festival offers four full days and nights of Workshops, Competitions, Performances and Social Dancing. The incomparable Saturday Night Gala is not to be missed, as is the daily pool party, which in 2011 will take place adjacent to the 1,000,000 gallon plus tropical pool complex at the resort.
The IHSC is an IHDA sanctioned event, giving Hustle dance competitors the opportunity to score points toward overall status and prizes. The World Open Hustle Championship is considered by many to be the most respected title in the Hustle circuit. * Dennis George Mahan AKA Deney Terrio, was the host and voice of Dance Fever from 1979 to 1985. He achieved fame as the dance coach and choreographer for John Travolta in the movie "Saturday Night Fever". In addition he appeared in motion pictures including: The Idolmaker, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, 'A Night in Heaven' and 'Knights of the City'. In 2005 he began hosting his own Disco radio show on the Sirius satellite network.
* He's been getting national recognition on "Dancing With The Stars" but Eddie Simon is already a dance star. A former United States ballroom champion, world show dance and U.S. theatrical finalist. He is the co-owner of Dance New York, New York Dance Festival and the Empire State Dance Sport Championships.
*Katharina Marks was born in Germany and was a top ranked competitor in International Ballroom in the UK. Winner of the World Rising Star Standard Championships in Miami, she has represented the US in Ballroom competitions in Russia, Germany, Japan, Italy and Greece. Best known as the owner/operator of the popular 'Starlight Ballroom' in Nutley, New Jersey.
* Music genius Georgio Moroder, best known as the man behind Donna Summer also is credited for writing the official theme songs, "Reach Out", for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, and "Hand in Hand", for the 1988 Seoul Olympics and "Un'estate italiana" for the 1990 Football World Cup.
* Maksim Chmerkovskiy carries the nic name 'bad boy' on Dancing With The Stars, performed in the Broadway show "Burn the Floor". He was a previous Manhattan Dancesport Professional Latin Champion and Ohio Star Ball Latin Champion. He will be appearing on an international version of the Bachelor.
* Over the span of her dancing career, she partnered with Kenny Gonzales and Ricky Quintana but she always shined brightest when performing with Eddie Vega, her original partner. Lourdes Jones, together with Eddie would go on to win the Grand Prix Championships on "Dance Fever" . She also capture the very first title at "Hustle USA" with Kenny.
* They had a list of club hits in the late seventies and early eighties but only one song made it to the top 40. European disco band 'Voyage' took us from East to West but only struck it big with "Souvenirs". Composer, singer Marc Chantereau, combined an orchestral sound with a high energy beat that dancers loved.
* One of the most successful dance shows at the time was the 'Arthur Murray Dance Show'. The current owners of this successful dance studio franchises are currently in discussions and negotiations to rebroadcast those original shows on television.
*Natalie Hershlag best known as Natalie Portman has been nominated for an Oscar for her dancing and acting in "The Black Swan". Her dance career started at age 4 in her home country of Israel. She went on to dance in the off Broadway show "Ruthless" and was an understudy, along with Britney Spears, in another show.
