We sadly report the loss of a wonderful dancer, Michelle
Rivera. She was out dancing just this past week at Club Karma in
Philadelphia, prior to taking ill. Our thoughts and prayers go
out to her family.
Michelle was only 40 years old.
Our condolences to the Bruno family on the loss of their
son. Anthony , 27 years old, was in a serious auto accident in
Cranbury, NJ, and died from the injuries received. He would have been 28 in
November.

MTV will be filming at the 'Society Hill Dance
Academy' dance party on Thursday, October 8th. Join

Amateur dancer, Teresa Allen, was select to go to DC
as a member of the Congressional Youth Leadership
Conference. Less then 1% of all high school seniors are extended an
invitation to take part in the conference (nominations are based on
leadership skills and academic achievement). Talent runs in the
family. Congratulations to her proud parents, Lynette and Derrick.
This week at Michael's Cafe, we celebrate Sheryl "Slinky"
Freas's birthday. Come out for the free hustle lesson with everyone's favorite

With the largest number of competitors on this seasons show, even when the
dancing is mediocre, the costumes never seem to disappoint. Many of the dance
professionals are becoming house hold names and featured in the entertainment
magazines and tabloids. The show is just that big. Each week in excess of
18 million viewers are tuning in to watch. It commands a space in the top 5 most
watched shows each week.
Mya Harrison is my hands down pick to win this season's
"Dancing With the Stars." The only question?
....is this an even playing field? Many of the
stars have a limited background in dance, while others have had some
involvement. Donnie Osmond, for example, has been doing dance routines
for years. Some of the stars are professional athletes but this has proven to be
no guarantee of securing the mirror ball. But, could Mya have
that upper hand advantage. Although she did study ballet and tap as a
pre teen, she has gone on to dancing and choreographing work on film and
video. She has appeared in the motion pictures, "Chicago" in 2002, "Dirty
Dancing - Havana Nights" in 2004 and "Shall We Dance" in 2004. For me,
there is a lot of gray area here. The odds of a non dancer competing on
this level makes it a long, hard, upward road.
Only time will tell who the most popular star will be but for my taste the
playing field appears lumpy.
