There is a new home for hustle dancing on Tuesday nights in New York. The "Original Tuesday Night Dance Party" has relocated to the newly renovated Club Sambuca at 272 Post Avenue Westbury, NY 11590 (¼ mile south of Northern State Parkway). See more details below.
Congratulation to Sergia Anderson & Alex Kim. They are going to Korea to appear on the national TV show "Star King", similar to "Star Search" and "America's Got Talent". It is currently the highest rated show in Korea. Alex is from Korea and caught the eye of the shows producer. Editorial - The Hustle
As the editor of DanceTalk, I have the privilege of communicating with numerous dancers, teachers, event organizers, DJ's and studio owners, from across the country. Almost every month, we experience the loss of a dance social or night club. Management has been forced to change formats in efforts to appeal to a larger clientele base, ultimately reducing the number of hustle venues. How do we reverse this decline? We are soliciting your thoughts on how to change this downward slide. This is not the blame game, we are not looking to point fingers. This is about moving forward in search of answers. How do we attract new faces to the dance? How do we re energize the hustle and package it to appeal to younger people? What is missing? How do we reinvent the hustle? Please share your thoughts at: www.thehustlelounge.com We are an aging community of dancers. For every new dancer that steps into the hustle circle, we take two steps back, as dancers are side lined with injures and/or poor health. The aging factor has caught up with us. We have a choice. We can sit back and pray for Zac Efron or the Jonas Brothers to make a movie about hustle dancing or, more realistically, take a proactive approach in search for ideas to remedy this dilemma. I recommend the latter. Has it really been that long since dancers waited in lines that stretched around buildings to get into clubs to dance? The recession has challenged us to look at our dance world differently. We are all faced with the unstable economy but it shouldn't cloudy the vision of a brighter dance future. We are all living thru an ever changing market place where evolution is now the name of the game. Dance organizers, dancer leaders have an opportunity to step up. The baby boomer generation has lead the hustle patrol for the last 30 years but it is now, more vital then ever, for the hustle to diversify and expand to future generations in efforts to grow. It's a topic that has been ignored and treated like the third rail of hustle. Why do we care so much about this exhilarating dance. It has given many of us years of fun and exercise. If it wasn't for this dance, many of us may not have met our loved one, best friends, and this irreplaceable dance community. For me, it has created an ever lasting bond with my daughter, as she too is an avid hustle dancer and performer. As we have all seen, the Hustle dance has been type cast in a negative light. Outsiders write about the disco era: white suits, drug abuse, the hustle, Studio 54 and John Travolta all in the same paragraph. The hustle dance gets parodied on television as a corny, uninviting dance that clearly doesn't stimulate the interest or taste buds of the younger generation. So what has happened? During the early years of the hustle, the dance was revered by all. Everyone, every age, every color and sex were eager to dance. The music was addictive, clubs popped up everywhere, the media covered the discotheques and the dancers were creative and inspiring. But times have changed. All dances should be passed on from generation to generation. The hustle is no different. There is no silver bullet approach to change the current trend. Is the hustle going to end up on a dusty shelf next to vinyl records, polaroid cameras and VHS tapes? Let's take the proper steps to keep our dance alive. We welcome your suggestions. You're out there. How do we drive the hustle into the future. How do we replicated the excitement that drove you to want to dance? How do we bring new faces into the hustle? How do we over come the lack of interest by young people? What would you do to encourage young dancers to learn the hustle? We need your input?
