PEACE & MUSIC Letters To the Editor (our goal is  to post readers letters twice a month, unfortunately due to space limitations we can not publish them all) To all my friends at Michael's, I was very surprised Tuesday when DJ Mark called everyone over to wish me a happy birthday, and a beautiful and very delicious cake appeared; compliments of our lovely waitress Jennifer. We all love to dance and that is what draws us to Michaels; but what makes you all so special is that you care about others and aren't afraid to show it in very tangible ways. Your consideration and kindness is very much appreciated. Gentleman thank you for the birthday dance and for the 2 perfect songs we danced to. Steve, Denise, Trish, Mark, Jennifer and Ron you are all very good at being sneaky! This was a birthday I will never forget! Most Sincerely, Eveleth  :>) >>>>>>>>>>>>> Ron,   It seems Hustle is in real decline nationally due to lack of interest from young people.  I believe there is a very good reason for their reluctance to join our ranks. With an unofficial speed ceiling of 115 BPM - our current version of the dance is so far out of the true club dance mainstream (128 - 132 BPM) that no amount of showing off the dance will pull in any more young people. They want today what we wanted in 1979. Could your parents have talked you out of the night clubs where you were doing hustle as 128 BPM to do their slow 30 year old dance back in the 70's? We'd have laughed, then yawned out of boredom. Kids have all seen our dance already. They prefer salsa and swing because unlike our dance - those work in the same musical genre and speed for which they were created. NY styled hustle of today is WAY slower than the original hustle dance young people created and loved 30 years ago.  Want young people? I don't think it takes a high powered defense analyst to figure out what's broken here. Move the dance back to 128 BPM and then back to the music and clubs that gave it it's strength. As of today “ we have a super slow dance that has no home. It's not in the clubs and not speed appropriate the current - even previous dance hits. Only 4 of the top 50 Disco hits of all time even meet the 115 BPM standard - thus 90% of the music WE ALL DID HUSTLE to in 1980 is too fast for our NY styled hustle today. Our hustle events have become like a 30 year HS reunion w/o any new entry.
